Learn how to make gulab jamun at home- Steps and tips
Basically, you can divide the entire process of making gulab jamun into four steps. So let's find out.
Making the dough for the gulab jamun
In a large bowl add some flour, khoya and cardamom powder to mix well thoroughly. Then some ghee is added followed by the addition of milk, the liquid portion needed to knead the dough.
However, do not over mix the dough or put too much pressure on it. Cover the dough with wet cloth and let it remain resting for at least half an hour.
How to make the sugar syrup for the gulab jamun
In a bowl you need to gather some suave, water, cardamom pod and saffron. Now bring the pot to boil gradually. Make sure you are simmering the liquid but not putting it on high heat. Let it simmer on the heat for about ten minutes. Once the slimy and sticky consistency has been reached, you can add the rose water and some lemon juice to the syrup. As the syrup is ready, you can remove the cardamom pods.
Making gulab jamun balls
Pinch off small balls from the entire dough and roll them in your palm. Do not take big balls because on frying the dough, they will get inflated and increase further in size.
You can either fry the balls in oil or Ghee although we personally prefer Ghee always. This certainly gives a flavor of smooth enrichment. Do not fry them to turn brown and rather try to achieve a golden brown hue.
Soak them in syrup and your delicious batch of gulab jamun is ready. Apart from Gulab Jamun, there are several other Indian dessert recipes in the list for you to indulge in.
